For those of you with iPads and iPhones, you’ll likely be familiar with iMessage.  It’s the same iMessage used on your other mobile iDevices.  Consequently, you’ll now be able to have synchronized messages between your iPhone, iPad, AND Macbook/iMac when sending to iMessage-enabled users.

So far, the public beta is only available for those of us running the latest Apple operating system, OSX Lion (full patched).  So everyone else with older versions will likely have to wait a while to get their hands on iMessage.

It looks like Apple may be running into some trouble, as their link to download the iMessage for Lion beta appears to be down.  However, feel free to grab iMessage from my mirror here:

• Error popup in center of screen that says “No SIM Card Installed”
• Phone still connects to wireless, but unable to connect to cell data.
• Sometimes switching Airplane Mode on and off will reconnect the phone to the cell towers, sometimes the error will appear again.
• Sometimes the phone will reconnect to cell data after a reboot (or several), sometimes not.
• This can happen as often as once every few minutes, to once per day.  Very annoying!

What didn’t fix it:

• Firmware updates
• Re-seating the SIM card
• Cleaning the SIM card
• Putting tape over the SIM card/tray per wooservers.com article
• Replacement phone

What I noticed:

• My symptoms began after I got a newer refurbished iPhone 4 to replace my old one that had a small crack in thescreen, and was simply showing some wear in general.  At the same time I got a new phone, I also got a new SIM
  card.  I noticed that my old SIM card I used with my old iPhone 4 had a smaller “chip” in it than the newer one I’d been using since this error began occurring:

Solution:

• Replace the bad SIM card with the correct size.  I had some spare ones at work I was able to procure, however, you’ll likely need to stop by the Verizon/AT&T/Sprint store and have them give you one.
• You should be able to simply take the old one out and pop the new one in (use a thumb tack or a pin to open the SIM tray on the side of your phone).  It only fits into the tray one way.  If it fits in the tray, you’re doing it right. 

“No such file or directory”

It turned out that I had downloaded an executable for the wrong architecture – in my case I’d downloaded the 32bit version instead of the 64bit version.

Hopefully this helps you quickly identify a similar problem.

This resolved the issue for me.

This script also imports the scheduled tasks as disabled.  I’m using this for a failover server, so I want them off.  you can fix that by removing the .replace(“str”,”newstr”) chunk.

In Arch you either use the network daemon or the net-profiles daemon.  Neither of those supports multiple IPs on a single interface too easily, and the easiest method I’ve found is to simply append the command for adding an IP to an interface to the end of the rc.conf file.

Itching to use one of the best new features of iOS 5 – WiFi Sync?  I don’t blame you – it’s great to be free of the required USB connection to your computer every time you want to backup/sync your iPhone/iPad.

However, you may encounter a situation where the “Sync Now” button is grayed out on your iPhone/iPad in the Settings ->  General -> iTunes Wi-Fi Sync menu.  Do not fear.  This is likely caused by one of three simple causes.

1. You need to plug your phone/iPad into an external power source.

2. You need to connect to the same WiFi network as the computer you’re trying to sync with.

3. You need to manually enable WiFi Sync in iTunes on the computer with which you’re attempting to sync.  The option to enable this can be found on the Summary tab when you connect your iPhone/iPad.  So yes, unfortunately, if you haven’t enabled that option yet, you’ll need to connect your phone/iPad one more time and check the “Sync with this phone over WiFi” box.

In order to wirelessly download all those purchased music, books, and vides from iTunes to your iPad/iPhone/iPod, launch iTunes then open the iTunes Store and click on the new Purchased link on the right side under Quick Links. You will see an icon to the right of your media that looks like a cloud with a down arrow.

You can click that for any media you want to download or choose to download all below that.

After your media has been downloaded to the iCloud, launch iTunes on your iPad/iPhone/iPod. Click on Purchased at the bottom right of iTunes. Download all the media you want and then it will be available in its respective locations on your device.
